The Tale of Bellini Seven
The Bellini cocktail was invented in the late 1930s by Giuseppe Cipriani in Venice, Italy. The drink's unique pink color reminded Cipriani of the color of a toga worn by a saint in a painting by 15th-century Venetian artist Giovanni Bellini... thus the BELLINI drink was born.
Why seven?
Giovanni Bellini was a highly skilled Italian Renaissance painter who founded the Venetian school of painting. Through his works he raised Venice to a center of Renaissance art that rivaled Florence and Rome. Bellini's artwork brought a new degree of realism to painting, and in 1479 Bellini was commissioned by the Chamber of the Grand Council (Maggior Consiglio) to create a series of great historical scenes in the Doge's Palace.
In 1577 the Doge's Palace sufferred a devastating fire and as a result Bellini's canvases perished. The series of paintings lost in the fire were acclaimed to be his best work. The total number of Bellini's masterpieces lost in the blaze... SEVEN.
